On Thursday 25th May 2017, Edward Tierney and Karl Connor attended the Amber Flag awards ceremony in Rochestown Park Hotel in Rochestown Cork. They received the Amber Flag in recognition of the work to promote mental health and well-being for all students in Rosmini Community School.
A series of initiatives were run in an effort to start a conversation among students about mental health and self care. One of these initiatives consisted of a programme of organised workshops and talks during Positive Wellbeing Week to increase awareness of the issues that can affect students' mental health.
The conferring of flags was followed by a short address by former Munster, Ireland and now Sky Sports rugby pundit Alan Quinlan, who has been an ambassador for the flag since it's establishment.
The Amber Flag is a very proud recognition of the fantastic work that is being done by both staff and students to actively promote a culture of positive mental health in which young people feel more comfortable talking about their problems.
