To celebrate National Coming Out Day 2017, all students participated in workshops with Shout Out, a community of activists committed to improving the school environment for LGBTI+ young people.
Students explored LGTI+ terminology, scenarios where students can act as good allies, and ways in which to create a welcoming environment for LGBTI+ students. The group of facilitators shared their own stories, of coming out, and becoming allies themselves. They explained how some language and behaviour during their time in school could be hurtful. They encouraged students to think of supportive words and actions that they could use to be more supportive and inclusive of their LGBTI+ classmates and friends.
