From Atheism to Evangelicalism: Exploring Diverse World Views

Mahatma Gandhi once said: 'Religions are different roads converging upon the same point. What does it matter that we take different roads, so long as we reach the same goal.' As part of Diversity Week 2017, students were given the opportunity to explore religious and secular world views. Nick Park, Executive Director from the Evangelical Alliance of Ireland, met with 3rd year students to discuss the beliefs and values of evangelical Christians in today's society. They learned about the partnership that exists with Christians and churches in Ireland in their endeavour to promote Gospel values in every aspect of life. Michael Nugent, Chairperson of Atheist Ireland, met with 6th year students to talk about atheism generally and why they believe it is more reliable than faith for understanding both reality and morality. Students engaged in an interesting discussion about the importance of freedom of thought, conscience, religion and belief, and their campaign for the separation of church and state as the only way to vindicate equally the right of everybody to their person beliefs.
